The Liverpool Migrant Resource Centre (LMRC) functions on the principles of access and equity and social justice for Migrants and Refugees. Over the years, LMRC has continued to provide employment, training and support opportunities through a diversity of cultural projects to numerous artists and art workers from the greater Western and South Western Sydney. Once again numerous artists have been employed by the LMRC on various projects throughout the year and are regularly referred to other organisations and agencies for paid work opportunities. In accordance with principles of Community Cultural Development CCD Practices LMRC continues to provide training not only to those newly arrive artists but to the numerous clientele that access and use our services.

The LMRC and its partners within the organisation continue to take solid benefits from the CCD Arts project through service cross-fertilization and resource utilization.

 

Introduction to Digital Media

The LMRC is currently running an ‘Introduction to Digital Media’ TAFE outreach course. The course is currently full with 12 participants and will provide a broad introduction and foundation to video, Photo media and sound. It will cover aspects of video capture and editing, photographic capture and manipulation and sound capture and editing.

Students will:

  • Learn to use basic sound recording equipment and receive an introduction to concepts of sound layering and editing.
  • Be introduced to the fundamentals of the video process - analogue and digital.
  • Be introduced to photographic processes.

The emphasis of this introductory course is upon developing an understanding of the interrelationship of all three disciplines within a digital media practice and context. The course content will seek to introduce students to knowledge specific to the core disciplines of video, photography and sound.

 

Originate 2007

The LMRC in partnership with Information and Cultural Exchange will be running the Originate program. Originate 2007 is a professional development mentorship and training program for artists and emerging community arts workers from Asia and Pacific Communities with a background or demonstrated interest in multimedia and digital arts.

The Originate Program will include elements such as:

  • Master classes / Forums / Seminars - presenting up-to-date information on topics such as copyright, insurance, funding, and other areas that may arise for the participants.
  • Forms and Attendance - all participants will be required to complete application forms (TAFE) and attendance will be recorded.
  • Assessments - Participants are required to commit to attending all training sessions and seminars. Participants are required to successfully pass the two assessments as required by NSW TAFE.
  • Supervision and Support – participants will be supervised by the CCD Trainer and project management staff. If required by the participants a limited amount of additional support will be provided and may include one-on-one discussions, additional access to facilities to complete tasks, and other as negotiated by the participant and CCD Trainer.

Refugee Youth Arts and crafts program

The LMRC in partnership with STARTS is currently running a ‘Refugee Youth Arts / Craft program’. Through a workshop process with a final presentation of participants Art works, the program caters for 15-20 young people that are newly arrived and of refugee status.

The workshops are being run by a refugee artist and facilitator and will offer multilingual support. The idea behind this program is to assist with settlement issues by building social connections for refugee young people in the Liverpool LGA and to increase their self esteem through arts engagement.

The START Refugee Youth Arts and crafts program is being held at the LMRC every Tuesday between 3.30-6.00pm.

EYES FOR YOUR EARS

This is a radio show at our local radio station 2GLF 89.3FM. This is a weekly arts and culture radio show hosted by local community, youth and art workers.

Eyes for Your Ears is broadcasted every Wednesday between 4pm and 6pm.

The first hour is produce with interviews of local artists, local music, talks on multicultural arts, as well as live and telephone interviews with local galleries, museums and other art precincts with what's on around South West Sydney and the multicultural arts industry today.

The second hour of Eyes for Your Ears is focused on Youth and the Arts. This space is run by local youth, who have finalized a professional radio training organized by LMRC, in partnership with Community Broadcast Association of Australia (CBAA), 2GLF 89.3FM, Mobile Multimedia Van, Liverpool TAFE Outreach and Liverpool City Council.

Film Making Holiday Program 2007

From the 15th-22nd of January 2007 a free video making workshop was run for young people aged between 18-25. This workshop gave young people the opportuinty to produce a short video in just 5 days, from the intial idea to the final product.

Participants gained experince in all areas of screen production including acting, scripting, storyboard ideas, shooting them using digital cameras and editing.

They also gained an overall understanding and practical experince of creating digital media.

At the conclusion of the workshop each particpat recieved a DVD of the short movie they made titles 'You know, he likes guys'.

Know your Neighbour

know your neighbour

Liverpool Migrant Resource Centre and All Saints Public School partnered in producing a documentary of the lives of seniors in Liverpool through the eyes of local youth. Year ten students researched, devised and trained with professional multimedia artists to produce this documentary. This project was funded by CDSE-Liverpool. Total of 6 young people were involved in the project, although this reached more than just those that were directly involved. The school included a detailed brief on the Know Your Neighbour project in the schools newsletter. More than 100 seniors were involved in the project overall with the launch-taking place during Harmony Day. New multi media skills were gained. The young people involved officially launched the DVD, during the Liverpool MRC Open Day on March 15th 2006.

 

 

Living Gardens Documentary

Liverpool Migrant Resource Centre and Liverpool City Council embarked on a collaborative project through the Living Garden: a Place Making Project. The project was aimed at newly arrived refugee and migrant communities of Southern Liverpool CBD and outer areas of Liverpool and was also open to all interested Liverpool LGA residents. The project’s main outcome was the production of a creative flower garden designed and created from the community’s ideas and aspirations, creating a sense of ownership for all residents involved. It is envisaged that this ongoing and sustainable project will remain as a community run initiative after the completion of workshops and gardens.

 

 

MAPD Western Sydney 2006

MAPD Western Sydney was a professional development program for those working in community arts partnerships, programming, curation, cultural marketing and communications, event management, project management and local government cultural policy. MAPD Western Sydney was managed by Kape Communications, the Australian Multicultural Foundation and Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre NSW in partnership with Information and Cultural Exchange NSW and Liverpool Migrant Resource Centre. MAPD Western Sydney was tailored to the needs of participants, taking into account the individual's position, skills, history and program aims.

 

 

Songs of Anklets

South West Sydney Legal Centre and Liverpool Migrant Resource Centre produced a performance with local participants. Songs of Anklets toured across different suburbs and venues in Western Sydney.
